Huge growth for League of Legends

The free game League of Legends has been outrageously successful online, and developer Riot Games has now announced that the player base around the game has been doubled since they last checked out player statistics for four months ago. Now the game has around than 32 million registered players, and although many of these undoubtedly tried the game once or twice and then put it away, the number of active players still enormous.

In fact, according to Riot Games they have about 1.3 million active players at any given time, and each day as much as 4.2 million players visited the servers. The company also says that players combined uses 10.5 million hours of playtime each day which equals to almost 1200 years per day.

In comparison, the popular MMO game World of Warcraft had 10.3 million subscribers at the end of September. This is a decrease of almost one million since June.

League of Legends is inspired by the Warcraft 3 mod Defense of the Ancients (DotA), and lets you manage your own customized hero in battle on colorful arenas.

The game includes role-playing and strategy elements. The action takes place in the fantasy realm Valoran.  Here are a handful of heroes fighting each other, and the winner will rule over the kingdom.
